Starbucks Denies Bitcoin As Payment For Coffee
A spokesman for Starbucks said it would not accept Bitcoin as a payment method, and a major media report said it is "misleading."
New York Stocks Exchange (NYSE) operator InterContinental Exchange (ICE) is planning to build a new global platform and ecosystem of digital assets on Friday with several big companies including US-based Starbucks, BCG, and Microsoft.
ICE said the CME Group and CBOE global market are planning to introduce a different futures contract in November that is different from the current offer. According to the ICE, the contract owner will receive Bitcoin instead of cash upon expiration
But analysts have raised doubts about the timing.
I think the decision is reasonable because cryptocurrency will not go away," said Maria Adamge, CEO of Megalodon Capital. "But whether the market is really ready for it is a separate matter.
Since the announcement, many major media have reported that Starbucks may soon accept a Bitcoin as a payment method.
Starbucks said in a statement, "Instead of being able to pay Frappuccinos with Bitcoin, "the company is part of a new venture that aims to create a platform that can "turn digital assets like Bitcoin into US dollars which can be used at Starbucks.
